Boston Militia Women's Football Team Closes the Regular Season With an 8-0 Record and Enter WFA Playoffs

The Boston Militia Women's Football Team put together a powerful running game that produced 344 yards and 7 touchdowns to overpower the New York Sharks 55-12. The first half saw the Militia take the opening kickoff and march 52 yards in 6 plays to score on a 9 yard run by Stacey Tiamfook and with the extra point by Danielle Resha the Militia took a 7-0 lead at the 11:23 mark of the first quarter.

The Sharks came out passing and were stopped in the first series and had to punt on fourth down. The Militia’s Chante Bonds ran the punt back to the Sharks the 43 yard line where the offense took over. The Militia’s Whitney Zelee on a 29 yard run on the fourth play from scrimmage and Resha’s extra point kick was good and the Militia led 14-0 with 9:11 on the clock in the first quarter.

The Sharks next series was limited by the strong Militia defense and the Sharks punted the ball. Amy Saur the punt for the Militia 23 yards and the Militia offensive marched on to the field. The Militia offense was stymied on this series by a fumble and turned the ball over to the Sharks on downs after 6 plays.

The Militia defense stopped the Sharks and forced another punt. The Militia offense wasted no time as Asia Landrum gained 15 yards and on third down from the 20 yard line, Whitney Zelee blasted her way in the end zone to open the second quarter and the Militia took a 21-0 lead with the Resha extra point kick.

The Sharks had two more offensive series in the second quarter but were unable to move the ball against the stubborn Militia defense.

The Militia offense then produced two touchdowns in the next two series with a two yard blast by Stacey Tiamfook, the extra point attempt was muffed with a fumbled snap and the first half was completed by a Militia score with a 15 yard pass from Allison Cahill to Emily Weinberg and a Resha kick for a 34-0 lead.

In the third quarter the Militia defense stopped the Sharks with an interception by Chante Bonds, who returned the ball to the Sharks 22 yard line. The Militia offense scored wasted no time and scored at 10:40 of the third quarter with Dorothy Donaldson blasting over from the 7 yard line for a TD. Resha’s extra point kick was good and the Militia held a commanding 41-0 lead.

However, the Sharks would not submit and put together a strong 11 play drive to close out the third quarter and put points on the scoreboard to open of the fourth quarter. The two point conversion attempt was no good and the Militia lead was cut to 41-6 with 14:49 to go in the game.

On the next Militia offense series, a Cahill pass was intercepted and returned 72 yards for a Sharks TD at the 12:06 mark. The extra point attempt was stopped and the Militia lead was now 41-12 and the Sharks seemed to pick up the intensity while the Militia appeared slightly stunned.

Adrienne Smith returned the kickoff to the Sharks 40 yard line and the Militia offense roared on runs of 13 yards and a 27 sweep by Zelee to cross the goal line. Resha‘s kick for the extra point was good and the Militia answered the Sharks at the 10:18 mark of the fourth quarter to take a 48-12 lead.

The Sharks put together a 13 play drive deep into the Militia territory. The Militia defense then stepped up and had a pass deflected by Briannah Gallo and another by Monica Guen while Alicia Harris was pressuring the QB. On fourth and goal, the Militia’s Fatima Carvey sacked the Sharks QB and the Militia offense took over on their own 5 yard line.

The Militia offense took the field and Whitney Zelee immediately sparked the team with a 57 gallop to the Sharks 38 yard line yard. The Militia closed out the game and scoring with a 7 yard run by Tiamfook and a Resha extra point kick for a 55-12 lead with only 25 seconds showing on the game clock

The offensive unit was led by an outstanding performance by the line making key blocks through the day.

Zelee gained 219 yards on 13 running plays and scored on runs of 29, 20 and 22 yards. Tiamfook also scored three times on runs of 9, 2 and 8 yards while gaining 68 yards on 8 running plays. Donaldson scored on a 6 yard run and Weinberg caught a 15 yard Cahill for a TD.

Resha kicked 7 extra points.

The defense was lead by Vicky Eddy with 10 tackles followed by Jessica Penta with 7 tackles and Becky Snow with 6 tackles. Carvey made a key sack in the fourth quarter and Bonds made two interceptions.

The Militia closed out the regular season with an 8-0 record and prepare for the playoffs of the Women’s Football Alliance.

Next Women's Football Game

The Militia’s next game will be on June 30 against the winner of the Keystone Assault (7-1) and the New York Sharks (4-4). The site of the game will be announced shortly.
