In a major WFA battle of two outstanding women’s football teams, the Boston Militia powered over and through the DC Divas for a big victory by a stunning score of 44-7.

The Militia won the coin toss and immediately set the tone of the game and drove into the DC Divas end zone in four plays with Whitney Zelee scoring on a 17 yard run. Danielle Resha split the uprights and with 12:46 in the first quarter the Militia led 7-0.

Not to be out done, the Divas proceeded to put together a 13 play drive and tied the score at 7-7 with 2:22 of the quarter one.

The Militia were intercepted to close the first quarter and the Divas retuned the favor two plays to close out quarter one.

In the second quarter the Militia put 20 points on the scoreboard to stun the Divas

The Militia intercepted a Diva pass and roared into the end zone in 6 plays and scored on an Allison Cahill 16 yard run. Resha extra point was good and the Militia led 14-7 at the 11:12 mark in the second quarter.

On the next series, the Divas put on a 8 play drive and were marching deep into the Militia territory to tie the game but were stopped with a Chante Bonds interception. The Militia took over the ball and immediately put on an outstanding ten play drive and scored on a Stacey Tiamfook run and a Resha extra point kick for a 21-7 lead.

On the pursuing kick off the Divas fumbled and Briannah Gallo recovered at the Divas 29 yard line for the Militia with 45 seconds to go in the half.

Adrienne Smith took a lateral pass from Cahill and found Bonds open in the end zone for a 29 yard TD. The kick for the extra point was wide. And with 37 seconds to go in the half the Boston Militia put a major hole in the Divas amour and led 27-7.

The second half opened with the Militia kicking off to the Divas. On the third play for the Diva’s, the Militia’s Jennifer Powell intercepted a pass and the Militia offense took the field and proceeded to march into the Diva end zone with a Cahill pass to Zelee and run TD to once again score for the Militia and with Resha’s kick made the score 34-7 with 10:21 on the clock in the third quarter.

The Militia Defense continued to control the line of scrimmage and forced the Divas to turn the ball over to the Militia offense in 7 plays.

The Militia final TD was scored on a Cahill to Zelee pass and outstanding run breaking numerous tackles and covering 71 yards. Resha’s kick for the extra point was good and the Militia closed out the 3rd quarter leading 41-7.

In the Fourth quarter, the Divas were stopped after a 10 play drive turning the ball over on downs to the Militia, who put together a 12 play drive capped off with a Resha Field Goal from 29 yards out and a final score of 44-7 win for the Boston Militia.

Allison Cahill completed 7 of 12 passes for 131 yards. Leading receivers for the Militia were Whitney Zelee with 2 receptions for 83 yards, Bonds with 2 receptions for 34 yards, Amy Saur with 2 receptions for 26 yards and Adrienne Smith with 1 reception for 20 yards. Leading the running attack were Zelee with 126 yards followed by Cahill with 69 yards and Stacey Tiamfook with 60 yards.

Defensive leaders for the Boston Militia were Shauntay Stewart with 8 tackles, Jennifer Olivieri with 7 tackles, Jessica Penta with 6 tackles. Making four tackles each were Deirdre Hiort, Molly Goodwin, Chante Bonds, Vicky Eddy and Shana Segers. Jennifer Powell and Chante Bonds intercepted a pass, and Briannah Gallo and Christine Kelley recovered a fumble.

The Boston Militia leads the Women’s Football Alliance National Division 2 Conference with a 5-0 record.

The women's football team, Boston Militia, will host the Boston Militia vs. Maine Lynx on 6/2/2012 at Dillboy Stadium in Somerville, MA with a 6pm kickoff.
