
Boston Militia, Women's Football Staff, Somerville, MA, 4/14/12


The defending 2011 Women's Football Alliance Champion stepped onto the Dilboy Stadium turf with one objective: to prove that the Boston Militia are the Women's Football Champions.
New York Sharks won the coin toss and elected to receive. They were able to gain 9 yards before a delay of game set them back and forced the game's first punt. The Boston Militia proceeded to march down field in 4 plays and Adrienne Smith scored on a 13 yard pass from Allison Cahill. The snap for the extra point was misfired and Danielle Resha picked up the ball and ran around the right side for a 2 point conversion and a Militia 8-0 led early in the first quarter.
The Militia offensive line was outstanding throughout the game opening gaping holes for the running backs in allowing the running game to gain 402 yards for the day.
The Militia running attack was led by Whitney Zelee who gained 141 yards on 12 carries and 3 touchdowns on runs of 30, 3 and 38 yards. Zelee caught a 22 yard pass from Cahill for another TD. Stacey Tiamfook gained 124 yards on 11 carries, 6 first downs and one TD on a 24 yard run. Also contributing to the powerful running attack were Chante Bonds with 20 yards, Xaymara Saez with 45 yards and one TD, Asia Landrum with 59 yards and one TD and Danielle Resha with 13 yards.
Allison Cahill completed 8 of 9 passes for 225 yards and 3 TD’s. Amy Saur made a fantastic reception on a 45 yard pass and run play that was stopped at the Sharks 3 yard line. Zelee carried the ball into the end zone on the next play for the Militia score.
The entire defense played an outstanding game making numerous stops and holding the Sharks scoreless until late in the fourth quarter.
The Militia led 15 - 0 at the end of the first quarter, 43-0 at the half, 50-0 after three quarter and closed out the game with a final score of 64-6.
The Sharks fought hard throughout the game and never gave up but the Militia just controlled both sides of the line of scrimmage with many outstanding performances. The defense was led by Molly Goodwin with 6 tackles, Raxan English with tackle in the backfield, a Jay Hodge of the QB and a Chante Bonds interception and return of 30 yards.
Danielle Resha kicked 8 extra points and ran one in for a 2 point conversion on the night.
The women's football team, Boston Militia, travel to Philadelphia on 4/21/2012 to play a key division game against the 1-0 Liberty Belles for the Nation Division 2 lead. on 4/21/2012.
