Emily Weinberg, a player on the Boston Militia football team, shows off her world championship ring at her home in Brookline, Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011.

Brookline — Emily Weinberg’s parents weren’t exactly thrilled when the Brookline resident told them she was considering skipping her brother’s wedding to play in her football team’s conference title game.

"When I first proposed the idea to my family they maybe thought I was little bit crazy and didn't understand," admits the starting tight end for the Boston Militia, a semi-professional women's football team based in Somerville. "They said, 'You would seriously miss the wedding for a football game?' And my reaction was, 'Yes.'"

To understand that mentality, you need to understand a little something about Emily Weinberg and women’s football. Read Teddy Applebaum's full blog at wickedlocal.com.
