The women's football team, Philadelphia Liberty Belles, marched into Dilboy Stadium and were quickly stopped on the field by a powerful performance by the Boston Militia in every aspect of the game.
The Liberty Belles won the coin toss and received the opening kickoff. On the second play of the game, Vicky Eddy intercepted a pass and returned it to the Belles 25 yard line and the Militia's march was started.
Chante Bonds ran 25 yards to the end zone on the third play from scrimmage and Danielle Resha kicked her first of 10 extra points of the game and the Militia was on the scoreboard at the 13:49 mark of the First Quarter.
The Boston Militia Defense stopped the Belles on the next series and forced a punt that Michelle Princi returned 15 yards and the Offense entered the game for the second series.
Allison Cahill, on the first pay of this series, hit Adrienne Smith on a 47 yard pass and the Militia had a first down at the Belles one yard line. Dorothy Donaldson powered her way into the end zone and Resha kicked the extra point for a 14-0 lead with 11:01 showing on the clock.
The Belles, showing at lot of grit and determination, entered the field but could not move the ball as Molly Goodwin and Patty Harper made defensive stops and forced a punt.
The Militia offense returned to the field. Cahill hit Emily Weinberg on a 21 yard pass and Stacey Tiamfook ran the ball the next two plays and scored on an 18 scamper for a score and the Resha's kick moved the score to 21-0 still in the first quarter.
On the next series, the Chante Bonds intercepted a well-thrown, deep pass by the Belles at the Militia 10 yard line. She picked up some great blocks and out ran the Belles for a 90 yard touchdown. Resha's kick was good, and with 1:55 left in the first quarter the Militia had an overwhelming lead of 28-0.
On the first play in the second quarter, Cahill hit Amy Saur on a 28 yard strike for a TD and Resha's kick moved the scoreboard to 35-0 at the 14:47 mark.
With 13:00 minutes on the clock, Cahill hit Chante Bonds on a 33 yard pass for another score. Resha's kick was good and the Militia led by 42-0. Whitney Zelee closed out the first half scoring with a 32 yard scamper, and the Militia entered the locker room at halftime leading 49-0
The Militia continued to control both sides of the ball but allowed a Belles score at the 10:13 mark. However, the Militia answered that score 3 minutes later on a Cahill to Kathryn Tylander 15 yard reception and the Resha extra point kick pushed the score to 56-8.
In the next offensive set, Cahill hit Ginger Snow on a 34 TD pass and the Militia closed out the third quarter leading 63-8.
The final Militia score was recorded by Danielle Resha on a 21 run and her extra point kick was good and a final score of 70-8.
The Defensive unit led by Jessica Penta with 8 solo tackles, 2 tackles for losses. Patty Harper had 5 solo tackles, 2 for Belle losses. Jennifer Olivieri with 2 tackles for losses and Chante Bonds with 1.
Recording pass interceptions for the Militia were Vicky Eddy and Chante Bonds, who returned one for a 90 TD.
The Militia had 3 forced fumbles by Eddy, Chloe Carden and Katy Bertman. The entire defense of the Militia played an outstanding game.
The offensive line of the Militia provide some outstanding blocking and protection for the running backs and QB’s. On the Offensive side, Allison Cahill was 7 for 10 in passing with 192 yards and 4 touchdowns. Danielle Resha punctuated her graduation week from Wakefield High School with a perfect 10 for 10 kicking extra points and a touchdown.
