Shortly after arriving at the Dillon Stadium in Hartford, the Women's Football Team, Boston Militia, were met by storm clouds, thunder, lightning and rain and then proceeded to pack their own storm and powered their way over the North Eastern Nightmare. The Militia, now 3-1 on the season, were lead by a strong offensive line and the entire defensive unit into stopping the Nightmare throughout the afternoon.
The Militia won the opening toss and behind the passing of Allison Cahill to Amy Saur and the running of Chante Bonds score on the opening series with 12:03 in the first quarter. Wakefield’s Danielle Resha kicked her first extra point for a 7-0 Militia lead that was the beginning of a powerful team performance for the afternoon. Resha complete 8 of 9 extra points for the evening with one blocked.
Dorothy Donaldson scored with 6:37 in the first quarter on a 14 yard run. Whitney Zelee scored the third touchdown at the 4:42 mark on a 17 yard run for a 21-0 lead. The first quarter scoring was completed with the clock showing 2:33 on the scoreboard with a Cahill to Adrienne Smith 62 yard reception and run for a Militia lead of 28-0.
The Militia defense stopped and forced the Nightmare to punt four times in the first quarter and provide the offense with some great field position.
The second quarter was started off with a rare fumble by the Militia and a strong defensive stand and another punt by the Nightmare. With 10:07 left in the quarter, Cahill hit Chante Bonds on a 40 yard pass for a 35-0 lead. Stacey Tiamfook scored on a 25 yard run with 5:59 left in the quarter followed by another two yard blast by Dorothey Donaldson for a Militia half time lead of 49-0.
The Militia made numerous changes throughout the second half. Elizabeth Calkins scored on a 20 yard run for the only score in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, rookie Danielle Resha ran 24 yards for the final score of the afternoon.
The defense unit of the Militia was lead by Jennifer Olivieri and Kristen Sarson with 5 solo tackles each followed by Nikita Payne, Christine Kelley, Katy Bertman with 4 tackles each. The Militia defensive unit made 14 gang tackles for losses of the Nightmare. The Militia had 4 sacks in this game with Olivieri, Payne, Jay Hodge and Raxan English each contributing big stops in the Nightmare backfield. Vicky Eddy contributed with the only interception of the game for the Boston contingent.
Allison Cahill was 5-11 on the day with 171 yards and no interceptions. The Boston Militia gained 226 yards on the ground with 8 players running the ball and were lead by Stacey Tiamfook with 68 yards. Amy Saur caught 2 passes for 50 yards, Adrienne Smith caught had a 57 yard reception, Chante Bonds a 39 yard reception and Ginger Snow a 5/8/2011 9:28:50 AM25 yard catch.
