On a cold and windy night at Prince George's Sporting Center in Landover, MD, the women's tackle football team, Boston Militia, was beaten by the Washington, DC Divas by a score of 35-20. This game once again was a hard hitting game from the start for these two power teams. The Militia kept fighting from behind throughout the night and had numerous opportunities but just could not find the right combination in this game.
Allison Cahill completed 10 of 26 passes for 75 yards and 2 TDs. Emily Weinberg caught a 20 yard TD pass and Kate Slack caught a 15 yards pass for the other TD toss from Cahill.
Ashley Snyder continued to demonstrate a her ability to kick the football by kicking two field goals of 34 and 32 yards into the wind as well as two extra points on the evening.
Snyder punted four times for 156 yards with the longest kick covering 52 yards.
The Militia ground game was held to 54 yards with Stacey Tiamfook carrying the ball 6 times for 10 yards and rookie Whitney Zelee gaining 33 yards on 6 carries.
The Militia defense was lead by Rachel Toal with 7 tackles followed by Jennifer Olivieri, Vicky Eddy and Jennie Brown with 5 tackles each and followed by Raxan English and Xaymara Saez with 4 tackles each.
The Divas were lead by Kenyetta Grigsby who carried the ball 23 times and set a Diva record by gaining 243 yards on the evening and 3 TDs.
With 15 minutes left in the game, the Militia got to within 28-20 and had the ball at the Divas 30 yard line but could not convert a fourth and 4. The Divas scored the final TD with less than one minute to go in the game.
The Boston Militia will take on the New York Sharks on April 16, 2011 at the Dilboy Stadium at 6pm in the season home opener.
